Duel on the Hill

Sample Case Study

This is a very shortened and broad version of a case study, but it should give your team an idea of what to expect at Duel on the Hill.

Janet Smith is nearing the end of her first two years at Culver-Stockton College.  She is an Accounting/Finance major and has greatly enjoyed her time at Culver-Stockton. She has loved the opportunity to participate in volleyball at the collegiate level.  She has also excelled in her courses and currently holds a 3.7 cumulative GPA.  Her family has come upon tough times over the past few years though and they will be unable to pay for her remaining two years.  Janet has depended heavily on her parents to pay the majority of her college.  She does currently receive $2,000 a year to play volleyball, but that is it.  Janet spent little time studying during high school and as a result her grades suffered.  Therefore at the time she applied she was unable to receive any academic scholarships.  When she applied her parents’ income was also very high, so they opted not to apply for FASFA believing they would not receive any support anyway.  Janet also does not have a job because she is typically swamped trying to balance volleyball and her studies.  Janet and her parents are in desperate need of help.  It is your objective to create a strategic plan for the Smith family to help Janet pay for her remaining two years at Culver-Stockton.  What are some means in which she can pay for the remainder of her college without taking out massive loans?
